Your Cat Will Love These Homemade Tuna Cat Treats

We are so excited to share a new homemade recipe for soft cat treats with you. Introducing our homemade two-ingredient tun chewy cat treats, that take just minutes to make, and are naturally grain, gluten, and dairy free!

These homemade soft treats for cats were born out of necessity when we understood the cat's tastebuds and health requirements. We needed to find a Purina whisker lickin's soft cat treats that we could give them as a reward. Commercial cat biscuits went down well, but we couldn't shake the feeling that they were full of all sorts of mystery ingredients and pretty carbohydrate-heavy.

So, we set about creating a healthier softer cat food alternative that was just as delicious and rewarding for cats. These tuna soft dry cat food are made with just two simple ingredients - canned tuna and tapioca flour - and they're grain, gluten, and dairy free. Plus, they're super easy to make, taking just minutes to whip up.

Homemade Tuna Cat Treats Recipe

These homemade grain-free tuna cat treats are sure to be a hit with your cat! They're grain, gluten, and dairy-free, and only take 35 minutes to make.

Ingredients:

1 egg

1 tin tuna in spring water (not brine), thoroughly drained (approx 120g / 4oz)

Recipe 

  1. Preheat oven to 170C/330F and line baking sheet with greaseproof paper or baking parchment.
  1. Crack an open egg and separate the white from the yolk. Discard the yolk and place the white in a large mixing bowl.
  1. Using a hand or electric whisk, beat egg white until stiff peaks form when the whisk is removed. Set aside.
  1. Pour the contents of the tuna can into the bowl of your blender. Add two tablespoons of whisked egg whites and blend until the mixture is a smooth paste without any flakes or lumps.
  1. Use a spatula to remove the tuna paste from the blender and fold it into the remaining whisked egg whites. Be careful not to knock too much air out of the mixture while combining.
  1. Transfer the mixture into a piping bag with a small star nozzle attachment. Pipe the mixture into small rounds on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Be careful not to make the swirls too large (as this would make it tricky for your cat to eat the treats). 
  1. Place in the oven for 20-25 minutes, until the treats feel dry to the touch and easily come off of the parchment paper. Transfer to a wire rack to cool, and then store in airtight jars. If kept cool and dry, they can last up to 2 weeks.

The resulting nuggets of tuna-ey deliciousness actually get a little bit harder once they are out of the oven and have cooled down completely. The final result is a crunchy, tuna snack that is so good - We are ashamed to admit - that we've actually started helping ourselves to the odd one here at Supakit HQ! They're a little on the dry side for human tastes, but We can't help feeling they would be the perfect savory bar snack to accompany a dry martini. Shh... don't tell anyone…
